This morning everyone was full of excitement in preparation for our farewell party. We began the day all together making Thank-you cards for our Host families. They have shown us so much kindness and warmth. Everyone had many nice things to say about their Host families. For example – ‘I will always remember your smile!’ / ‘Thank you for being so kind to me.’ / I have enjoyed you delicious cooking!’.
The students then had to complete an essay about their time in Japan. They had a limited amount of time and the aim of the task was to explain the experience whilst here.
At 11am we all headed to the Parish Center to meet our buddies for the Farewell party. A few of the Oliver Plunkett students read a Japanese thank letter to us, (in Japanese), before it was our turn to thank them. Shintaro and Makoto read a speech we had written together before we performed our song ‘Atohitotsu’ by Funky Monkey Babies. We presented the School Leaders with a Grad Club flag all our students had signed and all the students cheered as each of our students were presented with a certificate and lovely group photo from our trip to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The teachers were presented with a lovely photos of the group for Head Office and we thank them for their kindness. The Assistant Principal also made a speech and complimented our student on their behavior whilst in classes and in Host families. The school also presented each of us with a small token of their appreciation. Our students and their buddies were allowed to help themselves to the snacks, which included noodles, chips, lollies and cupcakes! We finished the party with the cake all the students tried and some even came back for a third helping of the cake it was so yummy!
On Friday afternoons all students at St Oliver Plunket from Years 4 – 7 participate in Sports. The Volleyball teacher kindly asked all our students to join her. With our student mingling with the Australian students everyone had a lovely afternoon. And in the game that saw ‘Australia V’s Japan’ our students very convincingly beat the Australian students. Well Done!
The students will spend their final night with their Host Families tonight, and whilst they are looking forward to getting back to Japan they have made many friends that will last a lifetime, so tonight will be also sad for many
.
